Alisson Becker has been sidelined for over a month due to a hamstring injury, and it appears he will continue to be absent for Liverpool’s next three matches, as per Jurgen Klopp’s latest update.
The goalkeeper sustained the injury in training prior to Liverpool’s 4-1 victory over Brentford on February 17. In his absence, Caoimhin Kelleher has performed admirably, aiding Liverpool in winning the Carabao Cup and maintaining their pursuit of multiple trophies this season.
Klopp previously described Alisson’s injury as “serious,” resulting in his omission from Brazil’s national team squad for the upcoming international break.
Speaking before Liverpool’s FA Cup quarter-final clash with Manchester United, Klopp addressed the media about the status of long-term absentees.
While Curtis Jones may return from a knee issue, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Diogo Jota, both recovering from knee injuries, may be available the following week. These three players have been sidelined for a similar duration to Alisson.
Consequently, the 31-year-old goalkeeper, who has missed Liverpool’s last six games, is expected to remain unavailable for a longer period compared to his teammates.
Earlier this month, Klopp commented on Alisson’s fitness, stating: “There is no real timescale on it, but it is a proper muscle injury.
“Different players recover differently. That is it pretty much. It is not a short one. It is not that he will be in contention for next week or something like that. We have to wait a few more weeks, definitely, for him. He is working in the gym, not on the pitch. It is a rather serious one but not a season-ending injury.”
Why Alisson is crucial for Liverpool FC?
In the Premier League 2023/2024 season, Alisson Becker has played 21 matches, accumulating a total of 1890 minutes in goal.
During this time, he has conceded 17 goals and achieved 7 clean sheets. This translates to conceding a goal approximately every 111 minutes when Becker is guarding the net.
On average, Alisson concedes 0.81 goals for every 90 minutes he spends on the pitch, with a clean sheets ratio of 33%.
In terms of his goalkeeping performance, Alisson has successfully saved 58 out of 77 shots faced, resulting in an impressive save percentage of 75.32%.
