Liverpool dispatch scouts to observe both a manager and player as rare double-deal is in view

Liverpool is reportedly orchestrating an unusual double deal, sending scouts to observe both a potential manager and player.

With Jurgen Klopp’s impending departure at the end of the 23/24 season, Liverpool is actively exploring options for his successor, with names like Xabi Alonso, Roberto De Zerbi, Julian Nagelsmann, and Ange Postecoglou in the mix.

According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool’s scouts have been closely monitoring Sporting Lisbon, particularly their manager Ruben Amorim, who is among those linked with the Anfield vacancy. Recent matches, including Sporting’s triumph over Benfica, have drawn Liverpool’s attention.

In addition to evaluating Amorim’s managerial prowess, scouts have reportedly been assessing Sporting defender Ousmane Diomande, a recent standout since his arrival from Midtjylland in January 2023. Sporting values Diomande at approximately £70 million, making him a potential target for Liverpool.

Following Klopp’s departure announcement, Liverpool CEO Billy Hogan addressed the process of selecting their new manager.

He said: “I think from our perspective, I don’t want to set an expectation because it’s a process we will go through.

“The way we operate as a football club is to look at all the information, the data and with due diligence and then make our decision. I can’t put a time on it – it will happen behind the scenes. It’s not to be a distraction… it’s about the campaign continuing and the team continuing to perform.”

Hogan added: “When we have something to say, we will have something to say at that point. [It will be] the same process that brought us Jurgen and that’s something we will do in private, with the people here and ownership. When we get to the place when we have further news then we will share – but it won’t be a running commentary.”
