£40m Michael Edwards target admits he is ‘aiming to move’

A player whom Michael Edwards has expressed interest in signing for Liverpool has recently hinted at a potential departure from his current club.

These remarks surfaced during an interview with UOL conducted over the international break.

So, which player, eyed by Liverpool, has suggested he might be open to a transfer? Let’s delve into it…

Bruno Guimaraes has acknowledged leaving Newcastle in the future, as Liverpool reportedly show interest

According to Spanish news outlet AS, the Reds are poised to pursue Newcastle’s No. 39, Bruno Guimaraes, this summer, especially with Edwards now serving as CEO of Football at Anfield.

This development arises amidst uncertainties surrounding Newcastle’s financial standing, with reports from the Guardian indicating that Eddie Howe might need to offload a key player in the upcoming transfer window to comply with the Premier League’s financial regulations.

Both Everton and Nottingham Forest have already faced point deductions for violating these regulations.

Now, Guimaraes has conceded that he’s uncertain about his immediate future at Newcastle, but he’s certain that he doesn’t plan to stay on Tyneside indefinitely.

The Brazil international told UOL: “I don’t know exactly, I don’t know what’s going to happen. I’m happy at the club, I never know what’s going to happen. We’ll try to get to European tournaments, I can’t say much about football. I don’t know what’s going to happen. I’m happy at the club.

“I’ve always wanted to play here, I’ve followed the Premier League. Everything’s been going well at Newcastle since I arrived, I play among the best. I plan to play here for a long time, but I’m also aiming to move in the future. I’m happy to be here in the league.”

Guimaraes, the £40 million acquisition whom Pep Guardiola recently commended, has amassed 40 appearances across all competitions for Newcastle this season. In addition to netting three goals, he has contributed seven assists.

Michael Edwards is considering signing either the Brazilian midfielder or Joshua Kimmich

Despite the arrivals of Wataru Endo, Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch, and Dominik Szoboszlai last summer, it appears that Edwards is keen on bolstering the central midfield, aiming to bring in at least one new addition.

Apart from Guimaraes, there is reportedly significant interest in Bayern Munich’s No. 6, Joshua Kimmich, as per BILD in Germany.

In fact, the German news outlet asserts that Edwards is keen on acquiring the 29-year-old irrespective of who succeeds Jurgen Klopp this summer.

As a result, it wouldn’t be unexpected to witness the arrival of a new central midfielder at Liverpool in the near future.
